As
well as the Showcases, we have a gig downtown
at Satalla.
This is an exceptional new venue for “acoustic
music” in New York and is going
from strength to strength not only in
terms of the programming but also the
audiences and luckily we are returning
here for a gig on the 7th of April.
Around
sound-check time we nourish ourselves
at a local Puerto Rican café –
Goat and Mofongo all with rice and beans.
Incidentally, on the menu the English
translation of “Mofongo” is
“Mofongo” but for those unfamiliar,
it is a Puerto Rican dish of plantains,
pork rinds and garlic. Anyway the food
is brilliant and the police are eating
here so it must be good.

domination

Tonight
we are sharing a superb treble bill with
singer Eric Bibb and the world famous
Balfa Toujours from Louisiana. As well
as our agents, Mitch and Matt Greenhill,
Pat’s New York muso buddies, Lincoln,
Denny, and Larry all come along as well
as Odetta, Cyndi Lauper and that great
Scottish singer, David Byrne. He may have
left when he was three years old but he
still qualifies as Scottish according
to the rules laid out by the Scottish
Football Association.

So
a marvellous night was had by all, but wait,
there’s more: Sunday night in New York
City means only one thing – Mona’s.
Mona’s is a pub in Alphabet city which
hold a great session every Sunday that does
not start until midnight. To cap it all off
this tune is run by Patrick Orceau A native
of the Loire but resident in New York City for
many years, he is a great fiddle player and
repository of Irish Music who also plays with
the group Croabh Rua. Once again Eamon O’leary
is here as well as Lisa Gutkin of the Klezmatiks.
And most importantly, local Photographer and
philosopher, Timmy Whelan. There is no better
place one could be for the end of New Year ’s
Eve.

Today
we return home refreshed, healthy, sprightly
and thin.
